Organ summer July 10 – Eyþór Franzson Wechner

Organ summer in Hallgrímskirkja takes place from July 3rd till August 22nd. Eight Icelandic organists will allow the magnificent Klais-organ of Hallgrímskirkja to sound at lunchtime concerts from the 3rd till the 14th of August. There will be an organ marathon on August 21st during Culture Night and the last concert of the organ summer will take place on Sunday 22nd of August at 17:00.

Eythor Franzson Wechner was born in Akranes, a fishing town just north of Reykjavík. He began playing the organ at 14 years of age. His first teacher was Úlrik Ólason and then in later years Björn Steinar Sólbergsson. Both received their higher education in mainland Europe. After two years at the Iceland Academy of the Arts he moved to Leipzig to study at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig” and completed a Bachelor’s degree in 2012 and Master’s degree in 2014 under the guidance of Prof. Stefan Engels. Eythor currently teaches at his local music school and holds an organist position in Blönduós, in the north of Iceland. He has performed in his home country as well as in Germany and in Australia.
