There are two choirs associated with the church: the Motet Choir, formed in 1982, and Schola Cantorum (1996). Both are acknowledged to be among the best in Iceland, as demonstrated by their many prizes in national and foreign arenas.
The Friends of the Arts Society of Hallgrímskirkja have promoted rich and varied events: concerts, drama, art exhibitions and more. Annually the Friends organize a series of organ concerts in the church that run from june to mid-august, with lunchtime concerts on Thursdays and Saturedays, and longer evening concerts on Sundays. These concerts are popular among tourists – the great organ played by world-renowned organists is something to remember.
Information about concerts can be found on the website of the Hallgrímskirkja Friends of the Arts Society.
