Service at 11 pm tomorrow Sunday April 2th.
Sermon Sigurður Árni. Celebrant Birgir Ásgeirsson. Members of the Motet choir sing. Organist Hörður Áskelsson. Sunday school lead by Inga Harðardóttir, Guðjón Andri Rabbevåg Reynisson and Sunna Karen Einarsdóttir.
Today we will discuss the dramatic story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22. What kind of God demands a father to kill his son? Can we belief in such a God? Is this a story of the worst possible child abuse? What to do with horror-stories of the Bible? Has the god of the Hebrews evolved from a tyrant demanding outrageous obedience into a totally different type of God – the God of Jesus Christ? If so, what does it mean and entail? What is the value of the story of a father ordered to slaughter his son Isaac (the name of the boy meaning laughter!). Take the time to think about your faith and what you believe in. What are your values and what are your limits? Do you obey some faulty authorities in your life you really should say no to? Is this the time for reversal and a new beginning in your life?
After the Mass there will be coffee and tea in the hall in southern wing of the tower. You are welcome to join us there. Pastor Sigurdur Arni Thordarson will publish his sermon on the website: www.sigurdurarni.is and you can also check the website: www.hallgrimskirkja.is Hallgrimskirkja is also on facebook and a like there is welcome.
